TouchLauncher Icons

I installed a sweet GUI for my Palm Centro, called TouchLauncher.  It’s basically a skin that makes your Palm device look a whole lot better than OEM, and allows some convenient reorganizing, as well.  Originally, I’d been using the developer’s icon set (see here), but I got bored and decided to make some icons of my own.

In the screenshot below, which I took with the freeware application, Snap, you can see just a few of the 38 icons I made, namely the Firefox icon for the Blazer browser, and the camcorder, Facebook, and Twitter icons.  The rest you see are from the developer and some other guys.  Through TouchLauncher, I was able to set the Facebook icon to launch the Facebook app that Sprint included on the phone; the Twitter icon launches the browser and goes straight to Twitter Mobile.

If you want the icon set, I uploaded it here:  http://drop.io/tlauncher  There’s also a screen capture in the .RAR file so you know which icon is which.  If you don’t already use TouchLauncher, I’d suggest you get a copy and play with it.  At less than $7, it’s some of the best money you’ll put into apps for your Palm.

nice icons! got the software at a discount during the holiday season!

e-mailed the developer on how to make the corners of the icons rounded but he hasn’t responded yet. are you using png files? i can’t seem to figure out how to do it with bitmaps. i followed the how-to from the TLIconset and managed to make some but just used black for the corners. any help would be most appreciated.

The background of the icons can be any color you like, but I prefer to go with black (0,0,0). However, you can use any color you like, so long as it’s not a color used anywhere else in the icon (basically, because this color is going to be forced to be transparent).

In the res.rcp file, following the word TRANSPARENT, you have three numeric values. These represent the background color. 0,0,0 is black, although the original author used 0,255,0. However, this can actually be any color you like. In Photoshop, when you select a color on the color pallet, you’ll see a value next to R:, G:, and B:. Replace 0,255,0 with these numbers.

The reason I used black for most of them is because it’s easier to blend into a dark background, in such a way as to not have a thin color halo around the edges of the icon.

Got it! You do have to check the icons with background to make them blend well. One thing though, instead of 59×59, i made them 57×57 because they tend to get cut at the bottom and on the right side. might be able to post pics later. That is, if I find out how to use them screencapture apps.

Jans, try using Snap for the screen capture: http://www.freewarepalm.com/graphics/snap.shtml

Can’t figure out how to make it work with my treo. Been looking at other forums and they have the same problems.

Hey! Can you do a step-by-step how-to guide on using Snap on your Centro? Still can’t get it to work on my Treo 650.

    Thanks!

hey, does anyone have a registration code they’d be willing to give?

Well, considering how cheap the price is, and the fact the code writer does deserve something for the program–and the continued updates–it’s not too much to part with.

@Aaron Agreed. I was originally thinking about getting a second-hand reg code, because I downloaded TLauncher on my old Centro and when it died I had to re-download and since I had updated TLauncher my previous reg code didn’t work anymore. :( But then I stopped being cheap and looked at it from the mindset that, hey, $7 isn’t such a bad deal. I spend more than that on games every month, so why not?
